In the heart of Austin, Texas, a musical force known as Almost Famous Friends rises, weaving captivating narratives within the pop-punk realm. Inspired by icons like Fall Out Boy and Good Charlotte, the 'Chronic Sad Boys' of Austin emerged in 2014, led by the impassioned songwriting of Tristan Wilson.
This dynamic ensemble, featuring Aris Manasco, Hunter Sharpe, Colton Kincaid, and Remy Manasco, infuses each note with a distinctive flair, creating a sonic tapestry that resonates with fans seeking both emotional depth and exhilarating live experiences. Since their inception, Almost Famous Friends has embraced relentless pursuit, solidifying their place in the vibrant music scene.
For this article, I had the please to interview Tristan.
The Birth of Almost Famous Friends
Meet Tristan, a self-proclaimed aficionado of dogs, skateboarding, Pop Punk, Pokemon, and anime, who wears the hats of lead singer and songwriter for Almost Famous Friends.
The band's inception in late 2014 started with Tristan's quest for musical companionship. He stumbled upon Aris, the drummer, through a craigslist ad titled "Twinkly Emo Drummer Looking For Band." The band expanded with Remy on bass, Colton on bass (a real bass player this time), and Hunter on lead guitar.
Despite diverse tastes, the group forms a unique blend, transcending traditional pop-punk boundaries.

Unveiling the Moniker: Almost Famous Friends
The band's name pays homage to the Fall Out Boy song, “Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Won’t Get Sued,” but holds deeper significance. It encapsulates a philosophy — the pursuit of passion and camaraderie over fame. Tristan emphasizes that even if they remain "Almost Famous" forever, the joy of creating music with friends is more than enough.
The Sonic Palette: An Eclectic Fusion
Almost Famous Friends draws from early 2000s pop-punk, emo, and alternative rock legends like Fall Out Boy and Green Day. Modern influences include Balance and Composure, Real Friends, and even elements from EDM and Rap.
Tristan shares that their music transcends typical pop-punk boundaries, incorporating indie, post-hardcore, electronic, rap, and more. Beyond the sound, their strength lies in poignant and relatable songwriting, connecting with people of all ages facing challenges.
Navigating Challenges: The Marketing Odyssey
Tristan humorously admits to being an artist, not a marketing guru. The band grapples with the challenges of the modern music landscape, particularly in the realm of social media. I feel this on a deep level, as I have a deep hatred for social media, yet here we all are…;)
Despite the discomfort, Tristan recognizes its necessity and dedicates significant time to navigate the complexities of platforms like TikTok. The love for music trumps the discomfort of marketing, knowing it's a crucial part of the journey.
The Melodic Alchemy: Songwriting Process
Tristan's songwriting process is a raw, vulnerable experience, often beginning with a solitary session on guitar or piano.
His inspiration emanates from personal experiences, current events, or even anime episodes that strike a chord.
The songs are a cathartic release, capturing emotions in a relatable and ear-pleasing manner.

With 10 tracks produced by Sam Pura of Panda Studios, the album promises a mature outlook on life and an experimental yet refined composition, slated for a 2024 release.
Memorable Moments of Impact
Several heartfelt moments have reaffirmed the band's impact on its listeners. One college performance left a girl in tears, who later became a good friend.
Another show moved an audience member to write a handwritten card and contribute money as a token of gratitude.
The band's music has also helped people process emotions, grieve past relationships, and discover self-love, solidifying their mission to make a positive impact through music.
