Intro
I have high expectations for music and am extremely picky when it comes to "liking" songs. I first found MODSUN from a Google search of "new pop punk artists." After hopping over to Spotify I wasn't impressed, initially.
I had to listen to a few of his songs until I found some that I like. Not all of music music is the "typical" pop punk but after a while, I really enjoyed listening to several of his songs. Here are my three favorites.
Karma
This song has 32.2M streams on Spotify and is likely his most popular song. It was his first single off the album Internet Killed the Rockstar.
"I hope you get everything you desire. Karma's a b**** I heard."
How true is that?
TwentyNUMB
This is probably the least-known song on the list. It's from Internet Killed the Rockstar and was not a single. It has 1.2M streams on Spotify.
It's totally underrated and I think is one of the best songs off of the album.
"So let's all celebrate in the new year. Let's all give a f*** this new year."
This song is pretty much the Auld Lang Syne of the album.
Down (feat. Travis Barker)
This song was a single only (no album affiliation) and features the best drummer alive, Travis Barker. This is my favorite MODSUN song and currently has 7.8M streams on Spotify.
"We had it all, something so much different. And we lost it all. I thought we were different."
Starting from the opening verse, this song will be stuck in your head all day.
Conclusion
So why am I writing this?
Well, MODSUN is about the same age as I am, which makes him pretty relatable. Many in the pop punk scene are Gen X or Gen Z.
Additionally, he's liked a handful of my comments on Twitter. It's so cool to have someone whose music you listen to engage with you on social media.
In a world of drugs and alcohol, MODSUN has been sober for over three years and is an advocate for the anti-drug movement.
No one is perfect and he's had his struggles, but I respect anyone, especially a celebrity who openly speaks out against drugs and alcohol.
